Art
Inherent in every child is the ability to create. The opportunities to develop skills to facilitate creation are the core of the visual arts program. Through art, students have the opportunity to not only learn about the world, but also discover who they are and who they might become. The St. Joseph Regional Catholic School art program begins in our pre-kindergarten classes and continues through 8th grade.
The objective of the art program is to introduce and build art skills while incorporating the elements of art and principles of design. The program promotes observational, imagination, and critical thinking skills by giving students hands-on experiences with a variety of techniques and diverse materials, such as tempera paint, watercolor, oil pastels, chalk, collage and printmaking. This wide range of art experiences develops observation, imagination, and critical thinking skills while promoting confidence, risk-taking and creativity.
All students build individual online art portfolios with Arstonia, an online program to display and share and archive their art. These portfolios not only promote self-esteem and parent engagement but are clear documentation of student growth year to year. Along with the portfolios, student work is displayed at different times during the year throughout the school, which encourages self-confidence, promotes the value of individual creations, and supports a deeper relationship with their God given talents.
The 8th grade graduating class creates and leaves two legacy projects behind for the school. One is a ceiling tile and one is a wall painting. The 2024 graduating class painting is displayed below.
